Garage Sokudo x Daikichi Cup

I was lucky enough to run a small event with Daikichi called the Daikichi Cup. These are usually held here at Gunma Cycle Sports Center, better known as Gunsai. Yep, the same Gunsai where all the classic Hot Version DVDs were filmed. We weren’t on the touge this time though, just the skid pad.

The Daikichi Cup is open to all skill levels, from first-timers to D1GP and D1SL drivers like Kitaoka-san, and of course, Daikichi’s father, Mikami-san. My partner Steph also had her first ever passenger ride here, and it just happened to be with Mikami-san. Pretty cool way to experience drifting for the first time.

There was so much seat time for everyone, which made it great for practice. We’d set up a course to drift through, plus a couple of cones for warming up with figure 8s. The whole day ran super smoothly with no major dramas or serious damage, apart from Kitaoka-san driving hard as always and tagging a few things along the way.

So many cool cars showed up clean and left absolutely filthy thanks to the snow on the track. I’ve got to say, drifting in the snow is something I haven’t seen in a long time, especially being from Melbourne. But any old Melbourne drift heads will remember a certain spot that was popular back in the 2000s, haha.

Anyway, I wish I’d taken more photos, but here’s a small collection. I was too busy enjoying the day and totally forgot to shoot.

Can’t wait to do it again with Daikichi, next time with the S14, and maybe at a different circuit. If you’re in Japan when the next one’s on, you’re always welcome to come spectate, or if you’ve got a car, enter and have some fun.
