I’ve always believed the younger generation is the future. As the older generation, it’s on us not only to educate but to learn from them too, and events like this really reinforce that. This past weekend I attended the Fourwinds Summer Tour meet here in Melbourne. Run by Taped and Peach Garage, it’s an annual meet and cruise through the city, focused mainly on 1980s cars. As you can imagine, the curation was wild, everything from Kaido Racer–inspired builds to factory OEM refreshes and everything in between.
Whenever I see this event, I’m reminded of what the Checkpoint Japan crew are doing over in North America. One of the highlights was the unveiling of their Mazda 929 in its new form, sporting an insane aero setup with an extremely long front lip, massive overfenders and a huge wing. It has a strong DIY feel and fully embraces Kaido Racer culture as it exists in Japan.
The day itself was met with heavy, smoky skies due to the bushfires around Victoria, but the crew dedicated the event’s donations to the CFA, supporting the firefighters on the front line. It really shows how strong community and support remain within the car scene.
I genuinely love what these guys are doing. They’ve cultivated a community that’s growing slowly, but with real strength behind it.
