Back in 2023 while out in Kanagawa, I finally had the chance to visit the legendary shop, Pro Shop Wave. If you’ve ever browsed through old issues of Drift Tengoku from the 2000s, you’ve probably seen their ads, absolutely packed with tiny images of coilovers, LSDs, wings, and everything in between. The shop has been operating since 1992 and is run by Hasunuma-san, one of the original members of the OG drift team Night Walkers, alongside other Kanagawa-based drivers like Kuniaki-san of Kunnyz, Yuichiro-san that drove for Weld, and Hirota-san with his iconic maroon Verossa. Pro Shop Wave is also home to their original brand, B-Wave, known for 90s-style ducktail wings and aero kits, often featured on their brightly colored demo cars.
When I arrived, I was greeted by president Hasunuma-san, who was kind enough to give me a full tour of the shop. Out front were two stunning red JZX90 Mark IIs, of course wearing Night Walkers stickers, along with a mix of other cars and bikes, including a widebody Toyota HiAce that was a work in progress and an extremely low custom scooter. Wave isn’t just a parts shop; they also handle custom work and restorations for customers’ cars, from mild setups to full-on transformations. I love seeing grassroots shops like this still going strong after more than three decades, staying true to their original passion.
At the end of my visit, Hasunuma-san gifted me some original Pro Shop Wave and B-Wave stickers. In return, I gave him one of our original t-shirts, which he loved, and it was pretty cool to later spot him wearing it in a Video Option segment on YouTube, tucked under his trademark orange overalls. A nice little surprise months after the visit.
