Garage Sokudo Matsuri 2026 Recap

What a weekend. I’ve finally had some time to unpack, get some rest and reflect on what was truly a fun day at the second Garage Sokudo Matsuri.

First up, a huge shout-out to everyone who braved Melbourne’s terrible weather to bring their cars down for display, as well as our exhibitors who put so much effort into showcasing their products.

The car selection was a reflection of the world of Garage Sokudo, leaning heavily towards drift cars, but with a mix of grip, street and dedicated circuit cars thrown into the mix. I’ve always planned these events around cars with personality and unique setups rather than polished show cars, and I think that’s what makes the selection so special.

This year also marked the first ever Garage Sokudo Archive display, exploring the history of D1GP from its early days, the circuits and drivers who helped shape it, through to the evolution of the cars and the series we know today.

Preservation and education are things I personally believe in, because keeping this history alive is how we make sure the culture, people and stories that shaped it are never forgotten. It was really special to bring this passion into a physical space at Matsuri and share it with everyone who came through.

The weather was absolutely horrible, as is tradition for Melbourne, but the turnout still exceeded my expectations. People were wandering around all day, supporting our exhibitors, vendors and Garage Sokudo. Our Garage Sokudo Matsuri merchandise sold out, along with the ever-popular Bonsai tee, which has just been restocked online!

Once again, a massive thank you to everyone who came down. To our exhibitors, vendors, everyone who drove their cars down, and those who loaded them onto trailers to be part of the day, it truly means the world to me.

My heart is beyond full knowing that so many of you believe in these events as much as I do. Garage Sokudo Matsuri is something I put a lot of myself into, and seeing everyone come together to make it happen makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Oh, and by the way, the next event is a driving one. I promise.
